This Song Should Make You Want To Do Drugs, Or More Specifically Psychedelics Psychedelics

SamBaah17 is an artist hailing from Reading, Berkshire. He is set to release his second single titled "Psychedelics."

"Psychedelics," "is not a song and was never his aim, but more of a feeling he wanted to project onto his fans or heaters as he calls them." This "feeling" wishes to create a sense of belonging to the high and intoxicated people at a party who can normally be found on the couches, either zoned out or passed out. "Psychedelics" is part of his highly anticipated EP "Can"t Actually Party."

Inspiration and Creative Process
The song or ‘feeling’ that SamBaah17 describes is the extended process that led up to recording the song, which took about nine months to record. Factors such as quarantine, and having to plan for university and studios being closed for the foreseeable future became obstacles for this young artist as he was not able to record and develop the song as soon as he had hoped.

Sam initially decided to start music because he used to rap and freestyle with his friends, who then encouraged him to take it seriously as they believed he could thrive and ‘go far.’ He came to the realisation that he did not want to be a rapper or be labelled as a rapper, as this can sometimes be restricting. Taking more of an artist approach allowed Sam to consider other elements that some rappers tend to overlook such as Set design, the subliminal meanings underneath the lyrics and how their fanbase and supporters receive the song, in terms of sensory feelings. Artists also tend to engage with the creative process around creating their art.

Despite not liking growing up in Reading, Sam was surrounded by open-minded and creative people, which may have essentially allowed him to go ahead with making his art. The Reading carnival may have played a large part in him becoming an artist.

My First initial Listen

When I personally listened to the song for the first time, it was giving me a Lofi hip hop vibe, along with the melody giving me an ‘I’m gonna listen to this song whilst I’m about to take drugs’ and ‘I’m gonna listen to this song on a night drive or whilst watching a sunset.’ The song gave me a very relaxed feel and had a poetic style that reminded me of Rejjie Snow; melodic undertones with monotone spitting elements.

Round Off and Last Thoughts

Sam had initial nerves about the upcoming release of ‘Psychedelics,’ as any artist would but I can honestly say that the song is very good and perfect for chilling with your mates or just vibing on your ones; the song truly takes you to a place where you can just lay back and relax. What’s next for SamBaah17 you ask? Well, we can expect an EP that he is currently working on titled ‘Can’t Actually Party.’
